Hi! From all of us that seem to be neglected by the others?! Since April, after a bumpy start' I think and I am sure that you will agree that we have got a bit further in our ambitions to help and support those of us that have the advantage of being over the age of fifty and having gained a great deal of experience, but feel neglected by the society that we built?
It can be a very lonely world out there, depressing and dangerous. However with the support and the 'signposting' that we have done I know we have helped a lot of people.
I think that one of the main reasons for the positive direction that we seem to be going is due to the unpaid support and help that the members have brought to the group, Terry,Jean,Charles,Gordon,Paul,Bob,Rad,Melany to name just a few!
We have also had donations from 'The Hedgecock Trust' to pay for the venue hire. (essential so that we have a place to actually meet!) and 'The Coop Community Fund' so that we where able to buy the essential equipment..a new laptop and printer and the 'ubiquitous' DONGLE' so we can communicate, quickly
via our e-mail and website. Also..not forgetting our first donation from the 'The Brunswick Society'. Now, this is not so much money but we are on our way.
Going back to what we have done so far, what we do, and a little about how we do it. Well a lot is decided by the members and their needs... with workshops, guest speakers engaged to talk on relevent subjects that are in the interests of the members sometimes even by the members sharing their knowledge and experience. Also signposting not only to jobb opportunities but things to do in their free time, and we seem to have a lot of that, There are also a number of members that have gone down the volounteer route.
I think that we have had a rewarding experience, and I am sure that '2009' will be an even better year for us.
I must not forget to mention 'Starbucks' who have helped us with the coffee-mornings.
We do need to let more people know about this lifesaving experience with WORKING50PLUS...on the first and the third Tuesday of every month at the Cornerstone Community Centre at 11am until 13.30pm.
Thank you, from your chairman Philip.
